Virgil van Dijk asked blunt question with new Liverpool contract 'to be announced soon'

Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk has dismissed speculation about a potential move to Real Madrid, insisting he is fully focused on his current club. The 33-year-old Dutchman was instrumental in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over the Spanish giants at Anfield on Wednesday night.

However, post-match, he found himself fielding questions from a Spanish reporter about his future. Van Dijk's contract with Liverpool runs until June 30, 2025, but no extension has been agreed yet.

When asked by El Chiringuito if he could see himself at Anfield next summer, a surprised Van Dijk responded: "What a direct question from you! They don't ask me that directly [in England].

"But listen, there is, at the moment, nothing I can say. The only thing that I can say is I'm fully focused on Man City from now on."

When the reporter suggested Real Madrid needed another top-class defender, Van Dijk replied: "Do they? I don't know."

When pressed further, he added: "But [Antonio] Rudiger is there, no?"

In the face of persistent questioning, a stern Virgil van Dijk remarked: "When? In the summer? Like I said to you before, the main focus at the moment, for me, is Man City. Liverpool, I'm fully focused on that, and I have nothing else to say regarding my future."

While the Dutchman and his English team-mate stay quiet, Salah's candid interview highlighted uncertainty about his future with the club, revealing: "We are almost in December and I haven't received an offer to stay at the club yet so I am probably more out than in. I have been at the club for many years.

"There is no club like this but in the end it is not in my hands. As I said before, it is December and I haven't received anything yet about my future."

Meanwhile, Anfield Watch claim that Van Dijk will sign a contract and the deal will be announced imminently, putting to bed any speculation surrounding his future.
