Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong next summer.
De Jong was linked with a potential move to Liverpool's rivals Manchester United during Erik ten Hag's tenure in the Old Trafford dugout.
The former Man United boss was seemingly keen to reunite with the Netherlands international after the pair previously worked together at Ajax.
However, De Jong has ultimately stayed put in Barcelona despite being consistently linked with a move away due to his significant salary.
The Dutch midfielder may be a top earner at Barcelona, but his current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026.

De Jong 'sparks' Liverpool interest
De Jong is yet to agree a new contract with the Catalan giants, raising the prospect that he could be allowed to leave the club next summer.
According to Fichajes, De Jong has 'sparked the interest' of Premier League leaders Liverpool, who could make him a 'priority target' ahead of the 2025-26 season.
The report claims that Liverpool are willing to put a 'significant offer on the table' in an attempt to secure De Jong's services.
There is also a belief that De Jong could be tempted by the chance to play in the Premier League despite previously admitting that he is content in Catalonia.
If Barcelona fail to agree a new contract with De Jong, they are likely to listen to offers next summer rather than run the risk of the player leaving for nothing in 2026.

Why are Liverpool searching for a new midfielder?
Liverpool's current squad are enjoying a successful campaign, with the club sitting top of the Premier League as well as the Champions League league phase.
However, the Reds are still keen to strengthen their current options, including in the middle of the park where they can already call upon the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones and Ryan Gravenberch.
Liverpool attempted to add Real Sociedad's Martin Zubimendi to their midfield options in the summer, but the Spain international decided to stay put in San Sebastian.
While they retain an interest in Zubimendi, Liverpool may view De Jong as another viable target, especially if it becomes clear what Barcelona will consider offers next summer.
