Billy Davies picks which rivarly is fiercer - Nottingham Forest vs Derby or the Old-Firm derby

Nottingham Forest have a ferocious rivalry with Derby County and Billy Davies is one man who has spent time in both camps.

It’s quite bizarre that Davies hasn’t worked in management since leaving the Reds for the second time in 2014.

Although he has a tendency to bring baggage that makes Heathrow Airport squirm, he has proved a very useful manager in England.

Davies took Derby to the Premier League through the play-offs and then led Forest to back-to-back play-off campaigns without winning promotion.

The 60-year-old is keen to get back into management and during a recent interview, he’s been discussing Forest and Derby.

The rivalry has taken a back seat for the last few seasons, with Forest riding high in the Premier League and Derby languishing in the bottom half of the second tier.

Davies is a man who has sampled the Forest against Derby rivalry on a number of occasions and he’s been asked where it rates alongside the Old Firm-derby.

Billy Davies compares Forest vs Derby against Rangers vs Celtic

Davies is clearly keen to get back into football management as he’s starting to do more and more media coverage.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Recently, he sat down with Si Ferry on the Open Goal podcast and he was quizzed on managing Forest after being in charge of Derby.

When discussing that question he made a brilliant claim about the rivalry in comparison to that of Rangers and Celtic.

He said: “They’re 12 miles away and they’re the greatest rivals you can imagine and by the way, I would think it’s more petty and fierce than Rangers vs Celtic, it’s bad!”

Forest vs Derby – The tale of the tape

Forest and Derby have had a fierce rivalry that dates back to 1892 when Forest won the first-ever meeting 3-2.

In more recent times, Derby haven’t defeated Forest for over seven years when the Rams won 2-0 against the Reds.

It’s 10 meetings since Forest last lost to the Rams and right now, it doesn’t even feel like the two clubs will meet each other any time soon.

In total, Forest have won 43, Derby have claimed success on 38 occasions, with 30 finishing in a share of the spoils.

The Reds and the Rams play for the Brian Clough Trophy these days and for the last seven years it’s been a permanent fixture in the boardroom at the City Ground.
