Everton must steer clear of appointing 'genius' manager after comment he just made - opinion

Everton find themselves on the brink of a potential managerial change, with things taking a bit of a step back in recent weeks.

David Moyes is being eyed as a potential replacement for Sean Dyche, though even that could be temporary as there are other plans for the summer.

The Friedkin Group wants a fresh start in the new stadium, and they plan to bring in a completely new manager to kick off next season.

Graham Potter, Sergio Conceicao and Edin Terzic have all been linked with moves to Merseyside, but it remains to be seen as to whether they may be available in the summer.

Interestingly, one manager not mentioned above may have ruined his chances of a revival at Everton after comments he made last night.

Carlo Ancelotti had a rather turbulent 18 months at Everton. He struggled to spend the money given to him by Farhad Moshiri wisely and ended up jumping ship in 2021.

However, he did manage to achieve 12th and 10th-placed finishes, which weren’t seen as amazing at the time, which shows how far we’ve regressed.

He took his Real Madrid side to Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

However, his return to Merseyside didn’t go to plan as they were beaten convincingly.

Ahead of the game, Ancelotti brought up the fact he was an Evertonian and that he still keeps an eye on his former club from over in Spain.

And then, after the game, the Italian boss made a comment that certainly won’t help his chances of potentially getting a return to Merseyside in the eyes of Everton fans.

He stated.

“I liked the team, we competed well against the toughest team in Europe.”

As well as this, he said.

“Last year, the issue of injuries was not very different; it is a difficult time, we have to endure. We have the experience of last year, which went well, let’s see if this year can also go well.”

Everton fans will already be feeling a case of Deja Vu.

Ancelotti may have ruined his Everton chances

Interestingly, Ancelotti, who has been hailed for his ‘genius’ tactics (as per The Sun), is supposedly set to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, which lines up with the timeline the Friedkin Group have given for a new manager for the new stadium.

Whilst there have been no suggestions he’ll be in the running, there have been supporters on social media calling for his return.

However, his latest comments may have turned a few fans off, as they’re strangely similar to those of Sean Dyche.

Everton fans were livid with Sean Dyche’s comment after losing to West Ham: “It’s a good point and good clean sheet.”

Meanwhile, Dyche also tried to turn the Southampton loss into a positive.

“A drive to come down here and dominate, which we have in the sense of chances,” Dyche explained.

“You don’t need to dominate these games with the ball because with all due respect to Southampton, they have a lot of the ball but I don’t think they really opened us up too much, I wasn’t really worried today about being opened up.

“I can’t honestly remember (Jordan) Pickford being stretched at all, hardly. So our shape was good, the energy was good to win the ball back and we won it in so many key spaces, my frustration is not making the most of that.”

It’s clear that there’s a mentality similarity between the pair, which isn’t healthy, as in some moments you have to be brutally honest.

For anyone who watched the game last night, Liverpool dominated in that second half and on the stats sheet and easily could have scored more.

With Dyche and Ancelotti having a history together, this could be a mistake waiting to happen.
