La Liga giants Barcelona are giving serious consideration to Frenkie de Jong’s sale in the summer of 2025.
That’s according to **[Diario Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/club-buscara-salida-frenkie-jong-112114648)**, who have on Thursday provided a fresh insight into the situation.
The name of midfielder De Jong has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital for several days now.
This comes amid mounting criticism being aimed in the direction of the Dutchman, for the level of his performances.
This past Tuesday against Brest, in fact, De Jong was whistled and jeered by members of the Barcelona fanbase.
And as much, added to all of his contract situation, high wages, competition for places and long-term failure to establish himself as a leader in Barcelona’s midfield, looks set to cost the 27-year-old dear.
As per a report from Sport:
‘The board of directors is in favour of the midfielder leaving at the end of the season.’
Amid fears that De Jong could attempt to engineer a free agent exit in the summer of 2026, those in a position of power at the Camp Nou are therefore ready to force the issue ahead of next season.
