Lyon are ready to sell Malick Fofana ahead of January and wants €30-35 million for the winger amid Premier League interest.
According toCaught Offside, Lyon are seeking at least €30-35 million for their young talent, Malick Fofana. The French side are ready to sell their 19-year-old Ligue 1 prodigy in January as they seek funds to resolve their current situation as a host of Premier League sides are interested.
Malick Fofana made a name for himself at a very young age at Belgian side KAA Gent, and Lyon paid a fee of just under €20 million to sign him. He has been a good enough signing for them, given he’s taken no time to get his bearings with the team.
Since January 2024, he has made 38 appearances for Lyon in all competitions and has started the new season brightly. He’s already seen as a possible target by Premier League sides, withLiverpool one of those keen on Fofana.
Arsenal and Aston Villa are also keen, with these sides interested in signing the exciting winger. Liverpool is covered in the wide areas with some formidable stars on their roster, but Arne Slot will start looking at options to improve his attacking setup, and Fofana certainly features on their list in that regard.
Arsenal are also looking at a new winger who is looking for a Bukayo Saka cover, and it would be a great chance for the 19-year-old Ligue 1 prodigy to learn from one of the best. Fofana starts primarily on the left wing, which makes him a good enough idea for the Gunners to explore.
Malick Fofana’s price tag revealed
Lyon are in a difficult spot after being hit with a provisional relegation to Ligue 2 next season if they cannot resolve their current financial situation. Hence, some sales are in order in January, with Rayan Cherki being one of those. Fofana could also leave if suitors can pay a fee close to €30-35 million.
Aston Villa are the other clubs interested, and among the others, Unai Emery’s side can probably give the 19-year-old Ligue 1 prodigy a better role in their squad. Either way, if clubs decide that Lyon’s asking price does not match their valuation, they could still find a way to negotiate that price, as a deal is expected to be made in January.
