Michael Owen believes Manchester United are already showing improvements under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

United picked up their second win in the Europa League, and in the Portuguese's first taste of football at Old Trafford, as they overcame a stubborn Bodo/Glimt side in a 3-2 win over the Norwegian's.

Alejandro Garnacho got the hosts off to a flying start, scoring after a minute following Rasmus Hojlund's persistent pressing forced a mistake from the goalkeeper. The visitors fought back and took a surprise lead but the Dane got on the scoresheet to level before half-time.

The 21-year-old was on target in the second to help United retake the lead. And the first game-and-a-half of Amorim's tenure, Owen felt it was the first time in over a decade that it was good to watch again.

He tweeted: "It’s been over 11 years in the making but @ManUtd are all of a sudden good to watch again! Improvement required everywhere you look but this is now a team with potential written all over it."

It is the latest tweet from Owen after taking a dig at Erik ten Hag before his departure. He wrote on Friday: "There have been plenty of false dawns @ManUtd in recent years but you sense that Amorim could be the right man.

"I like his demeanour. He looks confident and spoke more sense in 10 mins than Ten Hag did in 2 and a half years. It won’t happen overnight and there’s a fair bit of catching up to do but…….."

United moved up the Europa League table but remain in the round of 16 playoff positions, one point outside the automatic qualification places, with three games remaining.

There is a quick turnaround for Amorim's side with a return to Premier League action on Sunday against Everton. United could move into the top-half of the table with a win as they look to close the gap to the Champions League and Europa League places.
