Lionel Messi might be the star player at Inter Miami, but ask soccer fans which club they most associate with the Argentine, everyone would reply with FC Barcelona.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner joined the La Liga giants’ famed La Masia academy as a teenager with Messi going on to establish himself as the greatest of all time at Barcelona, with the forward winning three UEFA Champions League titles and going on to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.
With Messi forced to leave Barcelona in 2021, many fans have expected the 37-year-old to one day return to Catalonia to have a the real goodbye that the forward was robbed of during his final season due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
And Messi has now shared what he thinks about Barcelona three years since leaving.

Messi says he ‘misses’ Barcelona and ‘the love’ he received from everyone
Speaking to 3Cat, Messi revealed that he still ‘misses’ Barcelona and everything that came with playing for the La Liga giants, with he forward hopeful that the club continues to succeed without him there in the squad.
Messi said: “I congratulate the club on its 125th anniversary. It is a great pride for me to be part of this club and to be a fan of Barcelona. It’s a special club, different from the others, with all the difficulties that this imposes because of the way things are managed in football today.
“I was lucky that God led me to this place [Barcelona] and I spent my whole life in this wonderful club. Representing the Barcelona first team as we love and want is a great pride for me. I miss the club, the city, the people and all that love.
“As always, I hope we can continue to succeed and make this club bigger and better. I miss the club, the city, the people and all the love. As always, I hope we can continue to succeed and make this club even greater.”

Fans would love to see one last dance with Messi in La Liga
Even with Messi loving life at Inter Miami with a new contract on the cards for the Argentine, every soccer fan would love to see the attacker turn out for Barcelona one last time.
Although a deal now looks impossible given Barcelona’s financial struggles and Messi’s astronomical wages, the stars could one day align which could result in the 37-year-old turnout for the La Liga giants for one last dance.
And for Inter Miami, they could allow Messi to play one more time for his former club, with Barcelona fans eager to see their former star player feature and to give the attacker a true goodbye after failing to do so back in 2021.
