There is never any time at FC Barcelona to slack off and forget about planning for the future. Not doing this efficiently has cost the club before, and they wish to avoid facing the same kind of consequences. However, there are always different factors that Barcelona must consider simultaneously as well when looking at potential transfer targets.
Some of those factors include singling out and highlighting players that the club can realistically sign and bring into the club. Factors that can influence this range from the financial aspects of any given deal to the player’s own willingness to join as well when the transfer window comes around.
Another major factor is typically the player’s profile as well, and whether or not it fits well with how the coach wants to have his team play. As such, Barcelona typically conduct an extensive scouting report on relevant players and try to understand which profiles best fit them.

For now, according to Diario AS, a player from Serie A has emerged as a potential option for the club in the January transfer window when considering all such factors. Jhon Lucomi, a 26-year-old Colombian defender who currently represents Italian club Bologna, a side that was coached by Thiago Motta up until last season.
Currently, in the prime of his career, Lucomi has continued his fine form from last season into this campaign as well. Moreover, as per the report, his profile aligns with the likes of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez, showcasing a rare merge of physical prowess with solid technical abilities.
Across 90 minutes on average, Lucomi makes 13 recoveries, with an average of 5.22 interceptions per game, and wins 7.25 defensive duels as well on average.
Moreover, €17m-rated Colombian defender is also Bologna’s statistical leader when it comes to long-ball accuracy, which stands at a solid success rate of 74.2%. Undoubtedly, that could be an element of his game that Barcelona particularly appreciates.
As for the finances involved, the player currently has a €25 million release clause and it is one that Bologna reportedly considers to be negotiable as well.
It remains to be seen if any further developments take place in the case of the Colombian defender, but his form speaks for itself. If he continues to play like this and establish himself even further, a move to Barcelona could just end up becoming even more realistic.
