17-year-old Barcelona sensation nominated for FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award

With the way the team is playing, FC Barcelona are once again looking to be contenders for the top trophies in Europe and Spain this season. The Blaugranes thus look very likely to put things right after having ended the last season without any piece of Silverware.

Despite the lack of silverware last season, several players stood out in the team, with their performances for club and country earning recognition through some of the year’s most prestigious individual awards.

One such player is Lamine Yamal, who won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or gala held a few weeks ago, following his breakout season with Barcelona and an exceptional Euro 2024 campaign with Spain.

Now, as SPORT has reported, the Barcelona youngster is once again competing for another big prize, as FIFA has announced their candidates for The Best FIFA Men’s Player Award, where the international football governing body will recognize the top players from around the world.

Other players competing with Yamal for the Best Player award will be Dani Carvajal, Erling Haaland, Federico Valverde, Florian Wirtz, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Rodri, Toni Kroos, and Vinicius Junior.

Fans will play a big role in electing the winner of this prize in this edition of the award, as their votes will carry the same weight as that of current captains and coaches of the men’s and women’s national teams, as well as those of selected media representatives.

In addition to Yamal, there are several Barcelona players nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Player Award, including Aitana Bonmati, Caroline Graham Hansen, Keira Walsh, Lucy Bronze, Mariona Caldentey, Ona Battle, and Salma Paralluelo.

Voting is already open for these awards so fans can visit the official website of FIFA to vote for their preferred candidates. Hopefully, Yamal’s good performances from last season with Barcelona and the Spanish National Team will be recognized in this voting, even though he is not yet the favorite to win the biggest prize.
