'Really difficult': BBC pundit tells Ruud van Nistelrooy the key issue he will face with…

Ruud van Nistelrooy is expected to be confirmed as Leicester City manager in the coming days.

Leicester City are now on the verge of appointing Ruud van Nistelrooy to replace Steve Cooper in the dugout.

Cooper was sacked on Sunday and the Foxes have acted quickly to get a replacement in.

Various other managers were linked but the former Manchester United ace is now close to being announced.

While confirmation is imminent, Van Nistelrooy will not take charge of Leicester vs Brentford on Saturday.

However, he is expected to be in the dugout early next week when the Midlands outfit face off with West Ham United.

Ahead his reign getting underway, Van Nistelrooy could give Facundo Buonanotte a new Leicester role despite the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee excelling in the early stages of 2024/25.

However, Buoanotte is one of just a few Foxes stars who have actually performed well this season, with the Dutchman facing an uphill battle to avoid the drop with his new side.

Chris Sutton sends Leicester City warning to Ruud van Nistelrooy

The Midlands outfit lost 2-1 to Chelsea this past weekend, with Leicester stars spotted partying in Copenhagen less than 24 hours after the defeat.

It was the club’s annual Christmas party and several stars were pictured holding up an ‘Enzo I miss u’ sign at the event.

Leicester players showed a lack of respect for Cooper when he was manager and Van Nistelrooy is facing the same issue.

Chris Sutton, speaking on BBC Sport’s Football Daily podcast, has now warned the incoming manager that Leicester players are ‘an entitled group’.

He said: “I think the Leicester players are an entitled group of players who possibly played a large part in Cooper getting the sack. I think it is a really difficult job for [Van Nistelrooy] to go into.

“As Manchester United interim boss, he beat them twice and I don’t know whether that had any bearing on him getting the job. But, at the start of the season it would have always been about Leicester just staying in the Premier League.

“Maybe their expectations are higher.”

Cooper clearly couldn’t deal with the bad apples in the Foxes’ dressing room but if Van Nistelrooy wants to succeed, he will have to get control of these unruly stars.

Former Leicester City manager accuses club of ‘entitlement’

While the club’s players have come under fire from Sutton, the Leicester owners have also faced some criticism recently.

The decision to dismiss Cooper after 12 league games has divided opinion online.

Matt Piper shared his verdict on Cooper’s sacking as soon as the news broke, agreeing the manager had to go.

However, ex-boss Martin O’Neil accused Leicester of ‘entitlement’ after they opted to part ways with the 46-year-old.

He said: “Since 2016 things at Leicester have changed.

“They won the Premier League, FA Cup. Then go down and [Enzo] Maresca brings them up. Then they weren’t happy with Steve.

“I shouldn’t say this, I loved my time there, but there is a sense of entitlement there.”
