Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has updated his Premier League title prediction for this season — naming the Reds as the favorites and suggesting that Arsenal could finish above Manchester City.
Arne Slot's side could move 11 points clear of Pep Guardiola's men with a win this Sunday when the sides meet at Anfield. Liverpool has won 17 out of the 19 competitive matches that it has played this season and beat Real Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League midweek.
Manchester City, meanwhile, has lost five out of its last six games in all competitions. The one match that it didn't lose was against Feyenoord in Europe when it let a 3-0 lead slip at the Etihad Stadium.
"I actually think Arsenal might finish above Manchester City because of the problems they have got in midfield," Carragher said on a YouTube video for Sky Sports. "I’m going to go Liverpool to win the league now. I think it will be the bookies’ favorite and they have got a sizable lead.
"I still think it’s obviously going to be a tight run-in, whether that’s Manchester City trying to get at them or Arsenal coming back at them as well. I went for Arsenal second, Liverpool third and Tottenham Hotspur fourth. Liverpool and Arsenal will be in there. I just hope one of them is at the top end of the table."
Liverpool.com says: There is a long way to go but it would be silly to suggest anything other than Liverpool having a massive chance to win the Premier League title this season. Slot's men are in a brilliant position and it would be a huge advantage to go 11 points ahead of Manchester City this weekend.
That won't knock Guardiola's men out of contention completely but it would be a big statement. From there, the pressure would build on the Reds, because most people will assume that they couldn't let such a lead slip. With that would come a different challenge.
