Alan Shearer has backed Chelsea to beat Aston Villa in their upcoming Premier League clash on Sunday, December 1. He believes the Blues are currently on song and will maintain that momentum against Villa as well.
In his column for Metro, Shearer stated that Aston Villa were unfortunate against Juventus in the UEFA Champions League after their late goal was ruled out in a 0-0 draw. He addressed Villa's tough run as well and predicted:
"Aston Villa is on a bit of a tough run at the moment; they were very unfortunate against Juventus, and Chelsea is on the up and looking strong. I think I'll go for a Chelsea win with the form they're in. I think they'll take the points. Prediction: Chelsea win."
The Blues are currently third in the Premier League and can jump to second in the table with a win or a draw against Aston Villa on Sunday. However, for that, they will need other results go their way, including a Manchester City defeat against Liverpool.
Chelsea backed to beat Aston Villa by Chris Sutton
Chris Sutton, on BBC, he predicted a win for Chelsea over Aston Villa. He admitted that Unai Emery's side were not doing well and will struggle against Enzo Maresca's team this weekend.
He wrote:
"Aston Villa have not been firing on all cylinders recently but they were unlucky not to beat Juventus on Wednesday, after having a late winner ruled out. I captained Villa keeper Emi Martinez in my Fantasy team last weekend because I had not kept many clean sheets and just had a gut feeling they would keep Crystal Palace out – and of course they conceded after four minutes.
"Martinez is an outstanding goalkeeper, the best in the Premier League, but I cannot see him keeping a clean sheet this week either. I am backing Chelsea to take this one."
Boxer Sunny Edwards also made his call, alongside Sutton on BBC. He made a stunning prediction, backing the Blues to win 10-0, with Cole Palmer scoring nine of the goals.
