January promises to be busy for Oliver Glasner and Crystal Palace with a handful of positions now being looked at for potential additions.
Last week saw Oliver Glasner highlight two areas that he wants Dougie Freedman to recruit players in this January transfer window. While doing so, the Palace manager also demanded that deals be done for January 1st, rather than on deadline day.
This is a fair demand, considering four of his seven summer signings arrived too late to feature until after the September international break. But considering the perilous relegation form that Crystal Palace are in, improvements are needed and fast.
Sitting 19th in the league, Glasner is not under threat for now but this could rather quickly change should the Eagles still be struggling in one month’s time. To make matters worse, now multiple star players are being linked with exits.
Arsenal have reportedly opened talks over Adam Wharton, while Eberechi Eze is attracting Juventus’ attention.

Romain Esse to Crystal Palace latest
With attacking reinforcements among the areas Oliver Glasner is keen to strengthen in January, one name which looks increasingly likely is Millwall’s Romain Esse.
The 19-year-old winger has been enjoying a breakout year for the Championship side which has attracted interest from England’s Premier division.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are among the clubs to be monitoring Esse closely ahead of a mid-season swoop. But despite having the most publicised interest, the Eagles are not expected to be the only interest club in the Premier League.
There is also an indication that clubs in the Bundesliga are taking a close look at Esse, as the England U20 star is seen as ‘one of the brightest young talents outside the Premier League’.
It is believed that Esse has a release clause which is in excess of £12m. A figure that may remind Eagles supporters of signing Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze from the Championship.
Crystal Palace watched an impressive Esse performance last weekend
Esse has been linked for much of this season so far, with his performances being increasingly impressive which makes it no shock that he is catching Freedman’s eye. Three goals and one assist in the Championship this season so far do not quite tell the story of his season though.
Romain Esse stats 24/25 Championship season
3 goals
1.84 expected assists
17 chances created
10 crosses
35 dribbles
24 tackles won
130 duels won
17 aerial duels won
Esse is clearly having an impressive campaign, ranking highly in the percentiles of each statistic on FotMob, making it easy to understand the interest.
Last weekend, Palace scouts were watching Tom Watson at Millwall vs Sunderland, but in terms of wingers, it was Esse who would have caught the eye.
Esse created three chances in the game, while also winning nine duels which demonstrates his work-rate, something Glasner would really value.
