Up to six players could miss Chelsea vs Aston Villa in the Premier League through injury.
The Blues and the Villans are both set to be without key squad members for this Sunday afternoon’s English top-tier clash at Stamford Bridge.
It’s a game that could have huge ramifications on the Champions League race as both sides are eager to qualify for Europe’s elite competition at the end of the campaign. With Chelsea in third and three points ahead of Villa, a win for the away side this weekend could throw the race wide open.
Villa come into this clash with the more favourable team news outlook as just two players are at risk of missing out. Jacob Ramsey is ruled out for a while yet as he recovers from a hamstring injury, whereas Amadou Onana is a major doubt with a foot issue sustained on international duty with Belgium.
Chelsea, meanwhile, could be without up to four players with a potential selection headache at right-back for head coach Enzo Maresca. Malo Gusto is in contention following a spell on the sidelines through illness and Pedro Neto is expected to come back into the squad after missing last weekend’s 2-1 victory away at Leicester City.
It’s not such good news for Reece James, however, as the right-back has suffered yet another hamstring injury setback and one that’s likely to keep him out for several weeks. Former Aston Villa youngster Omari Kellyman is another ruled out as he also continues to recover from a hamstring issue.
Outs: James, Kellyman (CHE); Ramsey (AVL).
Doubts: Gusto, Neto (CHE); Onana (AVL).
