Alexis Mac Allister walking Liverpool tightrope ahead of Man City with threat of extended ban

Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister is set for a brief suspension next month, with the possibility of that extending to domestic matches. Mac Allister will be absent from the Champions League match in Girona on Tuesday week, having received his third booking in this season's competition during Liverpool's 2-0 home victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The midfielder, who netted the opening goal against the Spanish side, had previously been booked in the wins at AC Milan and RB Leipzig. And Mac Allister could face another suspension due to the Premier League's disciplinary procedure.

The Argentina international is one top-flight booking away from an automatic ban, having received yellow cards in four consecutive matches against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Arsenal and his former club Brighton. Players who accumulate five bookings within the first 19 Premier League games receive a one-match ban.

This changes to a two-match suspension for reaching 10 bookings after 32 games, and a three-game ban for totaling 15 at any point in the season. Liverpool have played 12 Premier League matches so far this season, meaning Mac Allister has to navigate another seven matches, starting with the home clash against champions Manchester City on Sunday.

Liverpool's busy schedule sees them facing Newcastle United and Everton in the same week, followed by a home game against Fulham, an away match at Tottenham Hotspur, and a Boxing Day showdown with Leicester City. The year wraps up with a clash against West Ham United on 29th December, marking the halfway point of the Premier League season.

Ibrahima Konate's recent yellow card at Southampton puts him one booking away from suspension in both the Champions League and Premier League. Liverpool are also anxiously awaiting news on whether the French international will be sidelined due to a leg injury sustained during a midweek game against Real Madrid.

Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai are next in line for potential Premier League bans, having each received three bookings this season.
