FIFA have announced the nominees for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2024 with several players and coaches from the Barclays Women’s Super League making the initial cut.
The world footballing body issued an official press release late last night which confirmed the list of nominees for each of the respective categories.
Four Barclays Women’s Super League stars are in the running for The Best FIFA Women’s Player award. Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw and Lauren Hemp, Chelsea’s Lucy Bronze and Arsenal’s Mariona Caldentey have all made the 16-player shortlist while England’s Keira Walsh also features.
Manchester City goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita is one of five players to be nominated for The Best FIFA Women’s Goalkeeper award. Former Chelsea keeper Ann-Katrin Berger and England favourite Mary Earps will provide competition for that accolade.
Finally, in The Best FIFA Women’s Coach category, Manchester City boss Gareth Taylor and Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor have been nominated. Former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes has also made the initial shortlist alongside five other coaches from across the world.
Voting for all categories is now open and fans can visit FIFA.com to make their selections. Voting will close at 11pm on Tuesday 10 December 2024. In addition to nominating for individual awards, fans can also pick The Best FIFA Women’s 11 from a shortlist of 77 nominees. The most popular player selections will be revealed during The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in the coming weeks.
