Arsenal are already planning a significant squad refresh next summer, with Mikel Arteta identifying four key positions to strengthen. The Gunners have endured a challenging start to the season, marked by tough fixtures, injuries, and suspensions, leaving them nine points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool.
According to The Athletic, Arsenal are aiming to rejuvenate their squad following recent transfer activities. The unexpected summer signing of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad marked a shift from Arsenal’s typical focus on younger talent. However, with Thomas Partey and Jorginho nearing the ends of their contracts and careers, Arsenal are looking to bring in younger players to secure the team’s long-term future.
Arsenal are also considering an experienced goalkeeper to replace Neto if the Bournemouth loanee does not extend his stay beyond the season.

Additionally, the club is keen to bolster its attacking options, including the addition of a versatile centre-forward. Arsenal are open to signing a wide player, particularly one capable of providing competition and cover for Bukayo Saka on the right flank. If the opportunity arises, an upgrade on the left wing is also a possibility.

James McNicholas of The Athletic highlighted Newcastle’s Alexander Isak as a prime target, describing him as “athletic, intelligent, versatile, and Premier League-ready.” However, Isak’s price tag and Newcastle’s determination to retain their star striker could make the deal challenging.

Arsenal have also been linked to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, a player they showed interest in last summer. Should Sesko become available, the Gunners are likely to reignite their pursuit.
Having signed experienced players like Jorginho, Neto, and Merino, the club is eager to return to prioritising younger talents who offer a better long-term investment profile.
McNicholas explained, “Arsenal are prepared to move for a goalscoring wide player if a centre-forward proves elusive. The focus is on acquiring players who can contribute immediately while also representing a sound investment for the future.”
With Arteta and Arsenal strategising for next summer, the club aims to strengthen their squad depth while maintaining a balance between experienced players and emerging talent.
