Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph marked the beginning of a special dynasty in the La Roja camp as Spain cruised to the title without much difficulty owing to the quality of a new generation.
One of the most pivotal moments in their campaign, undoubtedly, was Lamine Yamal’s astonishing goal against France and the storyline that led up to it.
Clearly cruising through the Euros and breaking defences at the age of 16, a lot was said about Yamal during the tournament for it was difficult to even believe his progression.
Adrien Rabiot’s quote on how Yamal must still step up, belittling the youngster’s contributions, however, did not go down well with many including the player and his goal against France was seen as the perfect reply.
Yamal recalls the goal
Speaking on the recent Amazon Prime documentary on Spain’s Euro triumph, the Barcelona winger reminisced about that particular incident and spoke the crew through the events that led up to the goal.
He began by explaining how he spotted the lacuna in France’s gameplay and spoke on how it was not a coincidence that he found himself in such a position.
“I remember we had been in the game for 20 minutes. I realized that France had a problem in the middle, they left people there loose.”

Elaborating on the action that particularly led up to his stunning goal from distance, Yamal said,
“Nacho gives it to Dani (Olmo) and I’m lucky that the rebound falls to Morata and the ball reaches me. There I stop and see that Nico, like a heavyweight, is always asking me for it.”
“Inside I thought I was going to give it to Morata, but I don’t know what goes through my head that I said to myself: ‘No, stop’. And it’s like the leg alone goes over me,” he added.
The Golden Boy winner then spoke on the beauty of how it was Rabiot who faced him in the duel just before the goal and what it meant to him.
“To whom I see that Rabiot leaves me a little space and goes to the other side, I had so much anger in my body that I hit it with everything, with all my strength.”
Finally, he produced a quote that has gone viral directed towards Rabiot and which perfectly summarised his celebration after the goal.
“The goal of your dad, brother,” he said eloquently.
