Cole Palmer has been superb for Chelsea and has been able to bench many big names like Christopher Nkunku. This has created a big selection problem for Enzo Maresca.
How has Cole Palmer benched Christopher Nkunku?
Cole Palmer and Christopher Nkunku both joined Chelsea last year. But they story has not been the same for both. The path has been full of flowers for one whereas it has been full of thornes for another.
Palmer had a superb last season and was one of the brightest talents in Europe. He was a main man for Chelsea and was even named Premier League young player of the year. He has been able to keep up the top form and is a regular starter for Enzo Maresca.
On the other hand, Nkunku suffered a serious injury which limited him to play only 14 matches last season. He has made a superb comeback this season and is the leading goal scorer for the Blues.
Despite scoring 11 goals in 19 matches, Nkunku is still not the regulat starter. In addition, he has to play as striker which is not his preferred position. He has started in only 1 Premier League match so far this season.

Maresca cannot bench Palmer for sure and hence Nkunku is having a limited game time. This has resulted in him getting unhappy and there are reports that say he is willing to move away from Stamford Bridge next year.
Maresca opens up about the rumours linking Nkunku with away move
Enzo Maresca has spoken up about the rumours that are linking Nkunku with an away move. He rejected all the reports that were stating that the Frenchman is unhappy at Chelsea right now.
“I spoke to Christo days ago and he did not say he was unhappy. For sure, he would like to play more minutes but like many players. We have so many games, especially in December” – Maresca about the rumors as quoted by The Times.
Lastly, Maresca said that the reason Nkunku is not playing regularly is due to other attacking options. He added that the team needs to defend as well and players like Nkunku, Felix, Palmer, Madueke and Sancho can’t do that.
