Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has appeared to confirm that he will be on the sidelines for a bit of time, in what is a blow for Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
Arsenal will be watching the situation closely ahead of a crucial game between Liverpool and Manchester City this weekend. The match will give the Gunners a chance to close the gap to one or even both teams.
Konate took a heavy knock in the closing seconds of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Real Madrid. He required treatment from the club’s physios before limping down the tunnel.
Any absence for the influential centre-back would be a blow to Liverpool ahead of what could be a key period in the title race. The Frenchman has formed a strong partnership with Virgil van Dijk in the Reds’ defence under Arne Slot.
That has helped them to open up an eight point gap at the top of the table. Arsenal currently sit in fourth place, nine points behind Liverpool.
Taking to Instagram, Konate wrote: “So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again.
“Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield. Inshallah we will keep going and I will support the team every step of the way.”
While Liverpool are gearing up to face second place Man City, Arsenal are in action almost 24 hours earlier. The Gunners will be able to cut the gap should they take all three points from their trip to West Ham United on Saturday evening (5.30pm kick-off).
