Gianluigi Donnarumma’s PSG future in doubt

Gianluigi Donnarumma (25) has seemingly lost his place in the starting line-up at Paris Saint-Germain, and naturally, it is a demotion that may affect his future at the club, as per **[L’Équipe](https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Article/Quelle-reaction-pour-donnarumma-fragilise-par-les-choix-de-luis-enrique-au-psg/1523454).**

Donnarumma’s No.1 spot at PSG has been in question since Matvei Safonov’s arrival in the summer. The Russian arrived for a €20m fee and he was bullish upon his arrival, stating his confidence in obtaining the No.1 jersey and saying that he wouldn’t make it easy for the incumbent.

Ultimately, however, it has been Donnarumma’s own inconsistency that has forced Luis Enrique’s hand, with the Italian stringing together a run of sub-par performances in the UEFA Champions League. **L’Équipe** understands that the former AC Milan shot-stopper has been particularly affected by his demotion to the bench during _Les Parisiens’_ loss against Bayern Munich in mid-week.

As a result, the demotion could have an effect on recent contract talks. Donnarumma is frustrated by his current situation and the lack of trust that Luis Enrique has shown him in recent months, to the extent that he may no longer extend his current deal, as had been touted. The Italian’s contract runs until 2026.
