Leicester City chairman, Aiyawatt “Top” Srivaddhanaprabha is expecting great things of new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The Dutchman has been confirmed as Steve Cooper’s replacement at the King Power Stadium, signing a deal that runs until 2027 following the Welshman’s sacking last weekend.
Top was instrumental in the decision to part company with Cooper having witnessed at first hand the Foxes home defeat by Chelsea last Saturday and fearing for the club’s top-flight future as they dropped dangerously close to the relegation zone.
And outlining his expectations of the new man, the chairman told the club website: “It is my pleasure to welcome Ruud to Leicester City. He joins a club with a rich history, passionate supporters and a talented squad, and we are all excited to see the impact he can have as we embark on this new chapter together.
“Ruud’s experience, knowledge and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us, and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our club."
The 48-year-old Van Nistelrooy will be taking up his second first-team managerial position at Leicester having previously been in charge of Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2022/23, guiding them to the KNVB Cup.
He left Manchester United, where he sparkled as a centre-forward under Sir Alex Ferguson, earlier this month following a four-game spell as interim manager after Erik ten Hag’s exit. He had joined the Old Trafford outfit as a coach in the summer.
Van Nistelrooy will take on a watching brief for Saturday’s trip to Brentford, with first-team coach Ben Dawson having led training all week, but will be in charge for Tuesday’s home clash against West Ham. He will be unveiled at a press conference on Monday.
