Leicester City hire Manchester United hero Ruud Van Nistelrooy as gaffer

Manchester United's former striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named as the new manager of Leicester City.

The Dutchman got the job even though he's only bossed two games in the Premier League. He was confirmed as Steve Cooper's replacement at the King Power Stadium after the ex Forest manager got the boot on Sunday.

Cooper had apparently totally lost the dressing room. So after only a dozen Premier League matches in charge and Foxes chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha didn't waste time after seeing Saturday's 2-1 dreadful home defeat to Chelsea. Where the Foxes appeared to be spectators themselves along with the fed up home fans..

Van Nistelrooy, 48, joins the club having left Manchester United in the wake of Erik ten Hag's exit at Old Trafford and the arrival of Ruben Amorim.

The former United striker had returned to the club in the summer - having previously been manager of another former club, PSV Eindhoven - as assistant manager and remained in situ as caretaker boss after Ten Hag's exit.

However, with new boss Amorim bringing in his own ideas and wanting a fresh start, Van Nistelrooy also exited - despite being keen to stay.

Van Nistelrooy, who rejected the chance to take charge at Burnley in the summer, was unbeaten in four games as interim United manager. And another former club, Hamburg, wanted him as their new coach but the prospect of going into 2. Bundesliga didn't excite the ex-Holland striker.

He now takes the top job with the Foxes, tasked with guiding them to Premier League safety. Leicester are currently lying 16th in the table after winning twice in their opening 12 games with Cooper at the helm.
