Ruud van Nistelrooy verdict on Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy
With the club firmly in a relegation battle, the new manager will be looking to his experienced players to lead by example.
One such player is Vardy, who is Leicester’s current joint-top scorer this season and is showing no signs of slowing down despite being 37.
The former England international is expected to lead the line against Brentford and Saturday where Van Nistelrooy will get a close look at him.
Before that, the 48-year-old has already shared his verdict on Vardy on Friday evening.
He said: “The captain, Jamie Vardy, has the most experience and the character. He’s the face of the football club. As a former striker, I can’t wait to work together with him as well.”
Jamie Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record
Despite only just becoming Leicester boss, Van Nistelrooy and Vardy have already interacted in the past and their history will forever be entwined.
Nine years ago, almost to the day, Vardy had already equalled his new manager’s record of scoring in 10 consecutive Premier League games.
Then, against Manchester United of all clubs, Vardy broke that record after latching onto a Christian Fuchs pass and slotting the ball past David De Gea.
Van Nistelrooy sent a message to Vardy after he became the new record-holder, taking to Instagram to write: “Well done @vardy7! You’re number one now and you deserved it.”
