Talks between Arsenal and 26y/o star over contract extension are at an advanced stage - Insider

Talks between Arsenal and Brazil international centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes over a contract extension are at an advanced stage, according to Ollie journo.

The Arsenal insider, who is famous for breaking news about the North London club on social media and is followed by the likes of Kaya Kaynak, Simon Collings, Ben Jacobs and Sami Mokbel on X (formerly Twitter), claimed on the social media platform on Friday evening that a new deal for the 26-year-old is being sorted out and close to completion.

New deal for Gabriel Magalhães getting sorted out. Being told it’s at a pretty advanced stage. Great news when I heard it. Not been as active as I have been very busy personally. I only post info when I get it from a credible place and if it has weight so here is an update 😅

Gabriel was briefly linked with a move away from the Gunners back in August 2023 after he started the 2023-24 campaign on the bench, with Saudi Pro League clubs keen on him at the time while Real Madrid wanted him following a long-term injury to Eder Militao.

The former Lille star returned to the Arsenal starting line-up shortly afterwards, featuring in the remaining 36 Premier League games of that season, and he has played all 12 league games so far this term.

Gabriel has continued to prove himself as a key player for the Gunners, with 186 appearances to his name since joining them in September 2020.

He signed a new contract until 2027 back in October 2022 and is now set to be rewarded with an improved deal, which would reflect his importance to the club.

The Arsenal star currently earns £100,000 per week, which is less than what the likes of Kieran Tierney, Thomas Partey and Gabriel Jesus take home.

Gabriel is not only solid at the back, he is equally a threat at the other end of the pitch, with 18 goals to his name since he joined the North London club.

Madrid star Antonio Rudiger believes he is one of the best centre-backs in the world right now, and he deserves a new contract.
