Tottenham News speaking to John Wenham

John Wenham believes Tottenham will need to agree a loan deal to sign Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t think the centre-back will be made available permanently.

As reported by CaughtOffside (19 November), Tottenham, Juventus and Liverpool are all interested in Andersen. The Denmark international was signed by Fulham from Crystal Palace for £30million this past summer, penning a five-year deal at Craven Cottage (via BBC Sport, 23 August).

As a result, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think Marco Silva’s side would let the 28-year-old go so soon.

“Andersen is a good player, but he only joined Fulham this summer,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, I don’t see a permanent transfer happening. Tottenham were linked with him previously and didn’t make a move then.

“I don’t see that transfer happening unless Tottenham agree a loan deal. I just can’t see a permanent transfer happening.”

Tottenham to agree loan deal for Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen?

It was previously speculated that Fulham could accept a £30million bid for Andersen, which seems fair value for an experienced Premier League player who could fit seamlessly into Ange Postecoglou’s side.

However, if he is only available on loan, Spurs might need to rethink their interest, and Postecoglou must decide how desperately he feels as though he needs a centre-back.

If the Australian feels this position needs filing urgently, Andersen could be a suitable option till the end of the season. However, if the Spurs boss is thinking more long-term, then the North London club might be forced to look elsewhere.
