Virgil van Dijk and other Liverpool teammates have sent messages of support to Ibrahima Konate, after the Frenchman confirmed that he is set for a spell on the sidelines. The centre-back hobbled off the field at full-time against Real Madrid on Wednesday following a collision with Endrick at the death.

Konate looked to be in some discomfort with his knee as he made his way back to the dressing room, with Arne Slot later admitting that this was “not a good sign” ahead of Manchester City on Sunday. The player himself has now confirmed he is set to miss a batch of matches.

Taking to Instagram, Konate wrote: "So frustrating to pick up this injury right at the end of a great game on Wednesday night. Now we start the recovery process but one thing I promise is I will come back and be the best I can be once again.

"Thank you for the amazing support at Anfield. Inshallah we will keep going and I will support the team every step of the way."

Centre-back partner Van Dijk was one of many Liverpool stars to send their well wishes to Konate, posting a loveheart and a strong-arm emojis in the comments. Conor Bradley offered the same while the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz all sent hearts.

Bradley himself remains a doubt after being forced off three minutes from time against Real with a hamstring complaint. On Thursday, Slot said it was too early to provide a detailed update on the right-back but confirmed Trent Alexander-Arnold is fit enough to start on Sunday.

He sat out the wins over Southampton and Real over the past week, having suffered his own hamstring problem prior to the international break. Liverpool, meanwhile, have Joe Gomez and Jarrel Quansah to choose from when selecting Konate’s replacement
