How West Ham Have Lined up Recently

Alphonse Areola is the first-choice goalkeeper for West Ham, gaining one clean sheet out of nine matches. Yet due to an injury former Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has started the last four matches. Despite the 39-year-old being called into action, The Hammers have now kept two consecutive clean sheets. The last time it happened was back in January.

The back four was altered to a back three in their 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest with Lopetegui playing Konstantinos Mavropanos alongside Jean-Clair Todibo and Max Kilman. That being said, against Newcastle, Lopetegui reverted back to a back four of Emerson, Kilman, Todibo and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The midfield has also been consistent, with Lopetegui preferring two defensive midfielders. This has usually been between Edson Alvarez and Guido Rodriguez, with Tomas Soucek alternating between them both. Soucek started against Everton alongside Guido Rodriguez due to Alvarez’s red card against Nottingham Forest where he got yellow cards in close concession.

Mohammed Kudus has consistently played alongside Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen in attacking midfield, but due to his suspension, Crysencio Summerville will be expected to play instead. Kudus should be available to play in their next match against struggling Leicester City midweek. Carlos Soler on loan from Paris Saint-Germain played in midfield last match, producing an impressive display. Michail Antonio is the man up front for West Ham that is preferred by Julen Lopetegui, with Fullkrug being out with an injury, yet his injury situation has been downgraded to a ‘doubt’ for their next clash.

Hammers Recent Form

West Ham have been in a very mixed period of form. However, they are starting to find a bit of form under Lopetegui. Their last match came away to Newcastle United, where the Hammers won 2-0.

Soucek who played as an attacking midfielder opened the scoring after ten minutes and Wan-Bissaka scored early in the second half. This win moved West Ham up to 14th in the league.

Injuries to Consider

The Hammers will have two players injured for their away visit to St. James’ Park. Kudus will miss the game through a suspension. This was after receiving a red card against rivals Tottenham back on October 19. This is due to violent conduct which occurred in added time. He will be back available against Leicester City, where it looks like the hosts of that match will appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager.

The only injury for West Ham comes through Fullkrug as mentioned earlier.
