Arsenal urged to bring in midfielder as£200k-a-week midfielder edges towards exit

Alan Smith has urged ARSENAL to begin planning for the potential departure of in-form midfielder Thomas Partey, after Mikel Arteta came out and revealed that talks will be held with the midfielder at the right time.

The Ghana international’s Gunners career has been plagued by injuries and he has constantly spent the time sitting on the bench, but he has been a big part of that Gunners side this summer and has been very impressive for Mikel Arteta.

However – he is out of contract at the end of the season and there is a chance for clubs to make an offer in the January window, and agree to sign the midfielder in the January window, which has left many wondering why Partey has not been signed up to a new contract.

The 31-year-old was outstanding again in Tuesday’s 5-1 win over Sporting Lisbon and earned the praise of his manager who spoke to the media on Friday ahead of this weekend’s game against West Ham.

Arteta told reporters: “We will have the right time to discuss about the situation.

“He is showing consistency at the highest level, again because his availability and the way that he feels physically is allowing him to do that, and I am very pleased with that.”

Now Smith believes he has identified the perfect replacement and encouraged the Gunners to prepare for life without Partey: ‘I think Arteta is looking at Tijjani Reijnders because players like Thomas Partey doesn’t look like he’s capable of what he used to athletically and can’t get about the pitch like he did,’ he told Mega Dice.

‘He might want some new legs in those positions and an extra body in midfield.

‘*ARSENAL* have spent a lot of money but if they’ve got the funds, you just want to keep improving the squad.’
