Ruben Amorim is already looking beyond the short-term having decided there will be no place for Christian Eriksen in Manchester United's squad beyond this season.

The Denmark midfielder, 32, will not be offered a new deal at Old Trafford with Amorim quickly making up his mind, according to reports. Eriksen started the new head coach’s first game in charge last weekend, a 1-1 draw away to Ipswich Town, but is not being viewed as a fixture after the summer.

Eriksen is one of six United players out of contract at the end of the current season. Amad Diallo, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans are the others, though the club have an option to trigger one-year extensions for Amad and Maguire.

The Eriksen decision had been on the cards, with the former Tottenham star saying earlier this month that no talks had been held about a new contract.

"I haven't focused on it yet, and I haven't heard anything from the club," Eriksen said ahead of Denmark's UEFA Nations League match against Spain. "Right now it's just about football, and then we have to see where we stand in January and for that matter in the summer.

"As a footballer, you just turn up and train, and then it is the coach who decides the team at the weekend. I have not set my hopes or expectations. It belongs to football."

Eriksen has already played more than half as many club minutes this season as he did in 2023-24 and he also sounded positive about his increased opportunity to shine despite United’s struggles.

The Dane has scored four goals and contributed three assists in cup competitions but is yet to make a goal contribution in the league.

"It has been lovely," the 32-year-old said of his game time. "As a footballer, you want to play as much as possible and be decisive. It's great to feel that I've really been able to take part."
