What Steve Cooper did days before Leicester City exit will serve Ruud van Nistelrooy very well…

Steve Cooper left new Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy a parting gift just days before he was sacked by the club.

Leicester City dismissed Steve Cooper on November 24th as they look to steer themselves away from the relegation zone as quickly as possible.

The Foxes went into the latest round of Premier League fixtures aiming to pick up just their third win of the season so far.

Cooper watched on as his side were played off the park by former manager Enzo Maresca this past weekend.

That defeat, or rather the manner in which it happened, led to the Englishman being let go by the Foxes.

In truth, his stint at the King Power Stadium was pretty disappointing, with Cooper falling out with several Leicester players and leaving the Midlands outfit far too close to the bottom three with no real style or identity on the pitch.

Steve Cooper Leicester City gift to Ruud van Nistelrooy

With Cooper gone, Leicester moved to appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager on November 29th.

Van Nistelrooy did not arrive on time to manage the Brentford clash but will be in the dugout next week against West Ham United.

The Dutchman is going to have his work cut out both on and off the field if he is to get the Foxes firing on all cylinders.

However, something Cooper did in his final week at Leicester should help his replacement out a great deal.

As per The Athletic, the ex-Nottingham Forest man had begun planning for the January transfer window a week before he was sacked, meeting with head of recruitment Martyn Glover and director of football Jon Rudkin to discuss what they would do in the winter.

Crucially, it is added that Van Nistelrooy may choose to pick up the plan already laid out by Cooper ahead of January.

Ruud van Nistelrooy Leicester City transfer stance

The fact the Foxes have already begun planning for the winter window should help their new manager out massively.

On-the-field issues, including a very shaky backline and several players massively underperforming, will be the bosses’ first and main priority once he takes full control next week.

So if the club have already identified what they need to do in January and started looking at specific players, that would give Ruud a massive boost.

Leicester already know Van Nistelrooy’s transfer stance after the real reason he left PSV Eindhoven was revealed recently.

But the latest update regarding the Foxes’ plans for the winter suggests he will not have that issue in the Midlands.
