West Ham starting XI vs Arsenal confirmed; Lopetegui makes big Alvarez call

Julen Lopetegui has selected a strong starting XI for the West Ham United vs Arsenal clash this evening.

West Ham face a tough test against Arsenal today, but if Julen Lopetegui can get a tune out of his players like he did against Newcastle, we will have every chance of causing an upset.

One thing’s for sure – the West Ham starting XI is more than good enough to cause the Gunners problems.

The mood around the London Stadium ahead of the Premier League clash with Arsenal will be much improved from our last home game against Everton earlier this month.

A draw would be a good result for the Hammers today, with a very friendly run of fixtures leading up to Christmas.

Meanwhile, nothing less than a win will do for Arsenal, so this one should be a really good contest today.

But how has Lopetegui set up his team for the London derby?

Each and every player must be on top form this evening, if we are to get a result from the match.

Lopetegui has named a strong team, one more than capable of giving the Gunners a good game.

Here’s how we line up today, as confirmed via the club’s official X account:

Lukasz Fabianski, Emerson Palmieri, Jean-Clair Todibo, Max Kilman, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Tomas Soucek, Carlos Soler, Lucas Paqueta, Crysencio Summerville, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio

Edson Alvarez returns from suspension, but he has to make do with a place on the bench.

That’s a bold call from Lopetegui given the Mexican’s importance to the team.

I’m really hoping that we play with bundles of energy today, and put the Arsenal defenders under pressure when they’re trying to play out from the back.

The Gunners are a supremely well-drilled outfit though, so our boys will have to be on top form.

They will have to defend well and be clinical inside the final third.

I expect the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Jarrod Bowen to be well up for this one, and we need Lucas Paqueta to be at his scintillating best.

I think we could cause a big upset this evening.

Don’t get me wrong, it wouldn’t surprise me one little bit if they battered us, but I’ve got a gut feeling that we will win 2-1…don’t ask me why!

The West Ham starting XI is the best available to Lopetegui, now we just need the players to turn up and be counted.
