Hansi Flick explains Dani Olmo’s absence for Barcelona vs Las Palmas

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has provided an explanation for the lack of minutes afforded to Dani Olmo in the club’s latest outing.

Barcelona were of course back in action on Saturday afternoon, welcoming Las Palmas to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga clash.

When all was said and done, the Blaugrana were condemned to a shock 2-1 defeat, to make it just one point secured from an available nine in their last three fixtures.

And watching on from the sidelines en route to as much was the aforementioned Dani Olmo.

After finding the net after being restored to Barca’s XI to face Stade Brestois in midweek, midfielder Olmo was expected to be in from the off once more against Las Palmas.

The Spanish international, however, did not even emerge from the bench over the course of the 90 minutes.

Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s damaging defeat on Saturday, it therefore came as little surprise when Olmo’s name was quickly put to boss Hansi Flick.

And, in his response, the German tactician went on to cite ‘discomfort’ as being behind the absence of the summer Blaugrana signing:

“I hope Olmo is fit enough to play in Mallorca (on Tuesday). He brings a lot of quality to our game and we didn’t want to risk him today because he had some discomfort.”
