Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe had his defensive stars to thank for emerging with a point at Selhurst Park - but despite failing to manage a shot on target the Magpies came close to winning this one.
Newcastle took the lead on 52 minutes when a well-worked free-kick saw Lewis Hall roll the ball to Sandro Tonali who picked out Anthony Gordon on the right-hand side of the area before his shot from a tight angle was bundled into his own net by Marc Guehi! Despite not managing a shot on target, Newcastle had their hands on a vital victory but they were denied late on.
Palace clawed back the equaliser in the 94th minute as Guehi's cross fell for Daniel Munoz who rammed home to make it 1-1. Here's how United's stars rated overall at Selhurst Park:
Nick Pope 8
Thought he'd done enough to earn the victory with a string of good stops as he faced 16 goal attempts. Great save to deny Sarr in the first half.
Tino Livramento 7
Some important clearances and interceptions.
Fabian Schar 7
Could not have done much more with key blocks and clearances throughout.
Dan Burn 8
A colossal performance as he blocked and swept clear time after time. The Blyth lad deserved to be on the winning side. Man of the match.
Lewis Hall 7
Looked comfortable for the most part and had a big part in the opener. Had 81 touches in all.
Bruno Guimaraes 6
Cut a frustrated figure at the end. Recovered from a shaky first half.
Sandro Tonali 8
Another who deserved to be on the winning side after a polished midfield display.
Joe Willock 6
Struggled to overcome first half knocks.
Joelinton 7
Some big moments and made five clearances in a much improved display.
Anthony Gordon 7
Battled through a knock to help created the opener. Ran out of steam.
Alexander Isak 5
Just three touches before going off with a heavy whack.
Sub
Harvey Barnes 6 (for Isak 21)
Shoved to his weaker side and faded after good start.
Callum Wilson 5 (for Gordon 75)
Eight touches and a yellow card.
Sean Longstaff 6 (for Willock 75)
Sent on to try to help Newcastle see out the game.
