Archer, 22, turned the ball in from Ryan Fraser's cross, thinking he had given Saints the lead after Flynn Downes' equaliser.
A lengthy VAR check followed. It ruled that goalscorer Archer was onside but Adam Armstrong was offside.

The officials adjudged Armstrong to have interfered with the play by impeding Verbruggen's ability to save Archer's effort.
The 27 year old ran towards the goalkeeper but beyond Fraser's cross, but did flick his heel close to the ball.
Speaking to Sky, Verbruggen was asked if Armstrong's movement had an impact on his view. He said: “It was a really long check.
"It happened so quickly. Sometimes you don’t see what is offside or not. I don’t even know why they gave it as offside. I think we got lucky there. It was really close.”
