Everton are unlikely to complete a deal for Roma star Bryan Cristante in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 29-year-old is a crucial part of Roma’s plans as they look to turn their season around after a poor start.
Roma are currently 12th in the Serie A table after winning just three of their opening 13 games of the season, leading to Ivan Juric’s dismissal on 10 November.
However, they are determined to find a turn of form in the second half of the season and feel they will need to keep their best players at the club to do so.
Cristante, a defensive midfielder who can also fill in at centre-back, has featured in all 13 of their league games so far and in four of their five Europa League fixtures.
Dan Friedkin is expected to complete his takeover at Goodison Park before the turn of the year, bringing with it rumours of potential transfer activity.

Everton are looking to strengthen their squad after their own turbulent start to the season, having won two of their opening 12 Premier League games.
Football Insider revealed on 26 November that the club will prioritise the signing of a new striker as a result of their issues in front of goal.
However, the Toffees’ scouting department is assessing all areas of the pitch for potential improvements ahead of the January transfer window.
With the takeover expected to be resolved before the new year, there is an expectation that the squad could see improvements brought in to strengthen them.
