‘I think they’ll win’: Peter Crouch has now predicted the result of Liverpool vs Manchester City

Liverpool face Manchester City on Sunday in what could well be one of the most decisive games of the Premier League season.

A Liverpool win here would see the Reds go 11 points clear at the top of the table after just 13 games, and while there’s still a long way to go in the season, that is a serious cushion.

Manchester City head into this game in the worst form they’ve been in since Pep Guardiola took charge.

City have failed to win any of their last six matches, and Pep Guardiola’s contract renewal doesn’t seem to have the desired buoyant effect on the squad.

Arne Slot wasn’t happy about Guardiola’s renewal and how it could help City, but that seemingly hasn’t happened.

City and Liverpool have had some ding-dong battles over the years, and these games have often been hard to predict.

Speaking on his podcast, Peter Crouch has now shared his verdict on how this game will go.

Peter Crouch predicts Liverpool vs Manchester City

Crouch shared his verdict on how this match will go.

Paul Merson tipped Liverpool to beat Man City, and Crouch believes this one will go that way too.

Crouch thinks this could be an emphatic win for Liverpool, tipping the Reds to win 3-1.

“Pretty resounding. I think City are struggling at the moment, and I think the confidence is so high at Liverpool. They’re getting the job done, but I think this could be a show.

And I think they’ll go eleven points clear, and I think they’ll be dominant, and I think they’ll win 3-1.”

Biggest points totals overturned in Premier League history

Liverpool will be 11 points clear of Manchester City if they win on Sunday and that may give the Reds the feeling that they’re on course to win the title.

However, this gap isn’t insurmountable, and there have been teams in Premier League history who have overcome these sorts of odds.

Champions to have overcome 11+ point gap Season Point deficit Team caught

Manchester United 1995/96 12 Newcastle

Manchester United 1992/93 12 Norwich City

Arsenal 1997/98 13 Manchester United

Three times in Premier League history has an 11-plus point deficit been overturned at the top of the table.

Three times in over 30 years is a rare occurance, but it’s far from an impossible task, especially when a team like Manchester City are hunting you down.

Of course, Liverpool’s gap to second may only be nine points after this weekend in any case as Arsenal and Chelsea are also still on their tails, and other teams have overturned that sort of gap on a number of occasions too.

Champions to have overturned 9+ point deficit Season Point deficit Team caught

Manchester City 2018/19 10 Liverpool

Manchester United 2008/09 10 Liverpool

Manchester United 2002/03 10 Arsenal

Manchester United 1996/97 10 Liverpool

Liverpool will have a bit of breathing space at the top if they beat City at Anfield, but make no mistake about it, the Reds can’t take their foot off the accelerator no matter what happens at the weekend.
