West Ham player ratings v Arsenal; Two 3/10's stink out London Stadium during Arsenal horror…

West Ham United played host to Arsenal at the London Stadium in the Premier League this evening.

The London Stadium was bouncing just before kick-off as West Ham welcomed Arsenal to East London.

However, things turned sour pretty quickly.

That wasn’t very good at all was it, and that’s putting it politely.

Arsenal raced into a four goal lead inside the first 30 minutes, but West Ham fought back with two quick-fire goals before half-time.

However, Arsenal then made it 5-2 just before the half-time break.

There were a few small improvements in the second-half, but it was still nowhere near good enough.

Julen Lopetegui is a man under real pressure right now.

And now the game against Leicester in midweek is an absolute must-win.

West Ham player ratings v Arsenal

That was so poor today aside from the five-minute period just before the break.

The Gunners were far too good for us, but we didn’t do ourselves any favours whatsoever.

Here’s how Hammers News rated the players…

Lukasz Fabianski 4

Tried to play out from the back when it just wasn’t on at times, but he couldn’t do much with some of the goals he conceded. Gave away a cheap penalty as well.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 6

Didn’t get forward up until he scored our first goal. Aside from that he was decent but I still want to see more from.

Max Kilman 5

Got caught out of position for Arsenal’s fourth goal and didn’t command the back-line with the authority that he usually does.

Jean-Clair Todibo 5

He’s just not strong enough when he needs to be, especially when defending set-pieces.

He needs to get up to speed, and quick.

Emerson Palmieri 7

Scored a wonderful free-kick, but he was tormented by Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard all night. Poor defensively but decent going forward.

Tomas Soucek 3

Non existent in the middle of the park. Seemed like a disaster waiting to happen against Arsenal.

Lucas Paqueta 3

Lost the ball far too easily on too many occasions today and you simply cannot do that against Arsenal. It’s a shame because he was so good against Newcastle on Monday night. Really, really poor from the Brazilian.

Carlos Soler 6

Made an incredible pass to set up Wan-Bissaka for our first goal. However, he was bullied far too often for my liking.

Crysencio Summerville 6

Looked lively whenever we got the chance to go forward, but wasn’t able to impact proceedings as much as he would have liked to. Still a bundle of energy though and I expect big things from him this season. That said, he does seem to be too lightweight, and he needs to hit the gym.

Jarrod Bowen 5

The captain was far too quiet this evening, and he failed to galvanise the troops like he should have done in my opinion.

Michail Antonio 5

The Jamaica international toiled all game up front on his own but didn’t hold the ball up well enough for us. A tough afternoon for Micky.

Subs:

Edson Alvarez 6

Injected some much-needed energy into our play in the middle of the park, and I would like to see him start against Leicester.

Vladimir Coufal 6

Solid performance but that’s all he’s capable of nowadays it seems.

Danny Ings 6

Some nice touches but wasn’t given any space to do any damage.

Andy Irving 5

Decent cameo, but nothing more.

Guido Rodriguez 5

Pretty ineffective, although he wasn’t given much time to affect things.

West Ham disaster-class against Arsenal

That was a very, very tough watch wasn’t it.

Arsenal are an extremely good side but we gave them far too much respect in my opinion.

The West Ham player ratings reflect what was a very difficult day at the office for us.

Our big players failed to show up and we defended incredibly poorly as a team.

Big improvements are needed against Leicester in midweek, if the Hammers are to bounce back and start a winning run.

If we don’t get a result up in the East Midlands, Lopetegui’s time at the club will surely come to an end.
