Arsenal thumped West Ham 5-2 at the London Stadium on Saturday to get its Premier League title bid firmly back on track.
The Gunners have moved up to second in the table following their emphatic victory, moving just five points behind Liverpool. The result will be a warning to Arne Slot's side, who take on Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday in a crucial game. If the Reds lose their upcoming clash, Arsenal and City will be right back in the title race.
Arsenal needed just 10 minutes to take the lead on Saturday when Gabriel Magalhaes lost his marker to head in from a corner. Leandro Trossard then tapped in to double Arsenal's advantage before two goals in three minutes from Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz made it 4-0 with just 36 minutes on the clock.
At that point, West Ham fans were dreading a humiliating home defeat. Yet the Hammers, remarkably, scored two goals in three minutes to get back into the game. Then, on the stroke of half-time, Bukayo Saka scored to establish an astonish 5-2 scoreline.
After an enthralling seven-goal first half, there were no goals during the second period. All eyes are now Liverpool, who will be looking to restore its eight-point advantage against City on Sunday.
