Bukayo Saka says Arsenal are back to their best

Bukayo Saka has claimed that Arsenal are now back to their best after the Gunners demolished their London rivals 5-2 away from home to claim their third successive victory in all competitions.

Saturday saw Arsenal make the short trip to east London where they took on a West Ham side who have so far failed to get going in the 2024/25 campaign – as pressure mounts on Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui.

The Hammers’ early season struggles persisted against Mikel Arteta’s resurgent Arsenal side, who were 4-0 up after just 36 minutes – thanks to goals from Gabriel Magalhães, Leandro Trossard, Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz.

A late first-half fightback saw the Hammers pull two goals back, but a Saka penalty deep into added time in the first half saw Arsenal extend their lead to 5-2 – putting the contest out of sight at an early juncture.

The statement win follows Arsenal’s resounding 5-1 victory away to Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s former side Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League League Phase just weeks after the Portuguese side beat reigning Premier League champions Manchester City 4-1 in the competition.

Speaking after the win against West Ham, Saka has claimed that Arsenal are back to their best after this run, putting to bed some of their own early season struggles.

He said: “I think, definitely, the last three games, we’ve been back to our best, back to our best way of playing. We’re fluid, we’re dynamic and you can see the movements, the rotations, everything looks good,” when speaking to Sky Sports following the game.

Saka himself has hit a terrific run of form, and his two assists against the Hammers mean that he is the first Premier League player to record 10 assists in the 2024/25 campaign, and sits just 10 shy of Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne’s all-time record – which will sit well in the 23-year-old’s sights with more than half the season still to play.
