Chris Wood will get the plaudits, but 45-touch star was Nottingham Forest's unsung hero vs…

Nottingham Forest returned to winning ways as Chris Wood notched his ninth goal of the season, but there was one other player who deserves a lot of credit for his performance.

Chris Wood equaled a 27-year record at Nottingham Forest by bagging his 24th goal in the Premier League, which puts him level with Bryan Roy.

Kieran McKenna singled Wood out ahead of the game as a threat, and Ipswich did well to nullify him, but could do nothing about his powerful penalty.

That’s now nine goals in 13 games for Wood, which is just astonishing.

However, one of Wood’s teammates deserves an awful lot of credit for the job he did under the radar in the Ipswich clash, as often it’s the goalscorer that gets all the plaudits.

Ryan Yates was the unsung hero against Ipswich

Ryan Yates often goes under the radar and today was one of those days.

He started in his familiar role and you could immediately see the difference. He was everywhere on the field, breaking up play, putting in key tackles and even pulling out a few of his tricks to help his side.

There’s not a blade of grass that man hasn’t covered.

SofaScore‘s stats back up exactly how well he played, especially defensively. He made one interception, two clearances, two tackles, was fouled once and won six duels.

Yates almost scored too, but his effort was hooked off the line by an Ipswich player.

Henry Winter even hailed Yates as the ‘unsung hero’ for Nottingham Forest earlier on this season.

Nottingham Forest fans agree with Ryan Yates’ Ipswich display

Ryan Yates received plenty of praise on social media after the game, and rightly so.

I have to say Ryan Yates was absolutely magnificent today! He was everywhere and even a few little tricks in there too

This isn’t the first time he has really impressed this season, as Yates was equally as impressive against Leicester City, and even grabbed a goal.
