Rasmus Hojlund’s brace inspired Manchester United to their first win of the Ruben Amorim era on Thursday and the new head coach will be hoping the Dane can carry that form onto the Premier League next.
The Red Devils are the 18th lowest scorers in the division and the Portuguese needs his forwards to start firing especially as the club’s chances of landing a replacement have received a major jolt.
Chelsea’s top scorer Christopher Nkunku’s lack of premier League minutes had seen the Frenchman get linked with a move to Old Trafford recently.
He has 11 goals this campaign, and is naturally unhappy with the lack of minutes in the English top-flight with Enzo Maresca playing him for only 163 minutes, preferring Nicolas Jackson instead.
Nkunku deal off
However, Givemesport have claimed that the former RB Leipzig star will not agitate for a January exit with more league minutes on the way as per the report.
The France international wants to prove himself at the club after an injury-plagued debut season in which he started only two games.
Still, the Blues are aware that they will have to answer enquiries with intermediaries pushing the player’s case to potential suitors.
“Chelsea have been handed a significant boost ahead of the January transfer window as Christopher Nkunku is not poised to push for a big-money exit from Stamford Bridge despite there being an expectation that he will be the subject of enquiries, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.
More minutes on the way
“Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund have been linked with Nkunku, but GMS sources have learned that he wants to prove himself to be a success story in Chelsea colours and the west Londoners will not cash in even though intermediaries are preparing to ask about the possibility of a move.
“GMS sources have been told that Nkunku is in line to get the nod to start against Aston Villa on Sunday or the clash with strugglers Southampton next week as Maresca is keen to allay his fears over a lack of game time at Chelsea by giving him more chances to thrive in the Premier League.”
With a deal for Nkunku potentially off the table, Amorim will be hoping one of Hojlund, Marcus Rashford or Joshua Zirkzee can start firing.
The Dutch star has really struggled and is constantly being linked with an exit in the winter. If he leaves, the coach could be left short unless INEOS can come up with a solution from the market.
