Liverpool star admits he had Arsenal shirt as a child

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has admitted he owned an Arsenal kit with Thierry Henry on the back of it when he was younger.

Liverpool’s Andy Robertson has had a long and successful career with his current club, now in his eighth season with the side.

The defender has made 30 appearances or more in all seven previous campaigns, and he’s already up to 17 in 2024/25. Those appearances have earned him winners medals in the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, and more.

But despite being a hero to the Liverpool faithful at this point in 2024, it seems Robertson idolised a player from a different club as a child.

Speaking to CBS Sports in midweek, Robertson was asked to pick his favourite from their punditry panel of Thierry Henry, Jamie Carragher, and Micah Richards.

Before the player could answer, Carragher made a plea to the Liverpool man, pointing out that he’d never been picked in answer to this question before. Unfortunately, he was left disappointed again.

“I’m not gonna lie, actually when I was younger I had an Arsenal kit with Thierry Henry [on the back],” Robertson admitted.

Robertson hasn’t ended up representing the Gunners as a player yet, but he’s featured in plenty of Arsenal games for the opposition, with mixed results.

With Liverpool, Robertson has often come out on top, winning six times in 14 appearances. But there are some notable exceptions.

Arsenal won the Community Shield against the Scottish international’s side in 2020, and he now hasn’t played in a win against Mikel Arteta’s men in any competition since the 2021/22 season.

When you factor in Robertson’s terrible record against Arsenal with Hull City (losing four and drawing one), he’s actually lost more games against the Gunners than he’s won.

But Arsenal have some catching up to do on the trophy front in recent years, and they’ve got plenty of work ahead to catch league leaders Liverpool this season.
