Griezmann golazo helps Atlético secure blowout victory in Valladolid

Oblak

Valladolid mustered a few decent looks at goal in the second half — including an Iván Sánchez shot that clattered off the crossbar — but Oblak had only one save to make all night. 5

Llorente

Made a clever overlapping run and delivered a pinpoint cross to Clément Lenglet to set up the first goal of the game. The Spaniard continued causing problems for the opposition throughout the match. 7

Giménez

Had a thumping header of a goal at the end of the first half overturned after an unlucky offside. Minutes after the second half started, he forced a difficult save from Karl Jacob Hein with another header on goal. At the back, the defender had time to make simple passes to keep possession. 6.5

Lenglet

Opened the floodgates on 26 minutes with a simple close-range finish from Marcos Llorente’s cross, his first goal in LaLiga since December 2020 for Barcelona. Ended the match with four clearances and two blocks. 7

Galán

Always looking to push the ball and cause some chaos on the left flank. Those efforts paid off with a 37th-minute assist for Rodrigo de Paul to complete a sweeping move up the pitch. Removed at halftime after picking up a yellow card. 7

De Paul

Very poor clearance inside five minutes put Clément Lenglet under tremendous pressure and led to the Frenchman colliding scarily with striker Mamadou Sylla — fortunately, both players were alright to continue. Made up for that mishap with a volleyed finish beyond Hein’s reach after de Paul made a late run into the penalty area. 7

Barrios

The heartbeat of the team, able to keep the tempo high throughout with his distribution, including switches of play and crisp passes to feet. 6

Gallagher

The England international connected well with Javi Galán on the left-hand side of midfield — their give-and-go sequence created de Paul’s goal. Gallagher then set up Ángel Correa to assist Alexander Sørloth for Atlético Madrid’s fifth and final goal. 6

Giuliano

Would not be denied on the right flank, his athleticism and work rate single-handedly opening space and proving devastating when Atlético counterattacked. Giuliano’s connection with Julián Alvarez continues to grow — the two linked up for Alvarez’s 35th-minute goal and combined again for Antoine Griezmann’s 52nd-minute show-stopper. 7.5

Griezmann

The Frenchman’s impact grew as the game moved along, culminating in his sensational goal seven minutes after halftime. Check it out below. 7

Alvarez

Cleaned up a rebound from Griezmann’s shot and slotted the ball past Hein for his fifth goal in LaLiga (and 10th in all competitions). Went on to assist Griezmann’s goal with a slick one-touch pass into the box. 8

Reinildo

Brought some energy at the back and looked comfortable in continuing where Galán had left off. 5.5

Koke

Came on for de Paul shortly after Atlético’s fourth goal. Slowed the team’s tempo a bit and worked to keep the midfield compact. 5

Sørloth

Scored in added time, getting on the end of Correa’s cross. 6.5

Correa

Received Conor Gallagher’s through ball and passed it over to Sørloth to pick up a last-minute assist. 6.5

Lino

Replaced Pablo Barrios with 10 minutes to go. Couldn’t do much in his limited time. N/A
