Andy Gray blown away by Carlos Soler despite West Ham United thumping v Arsenal

Andy Gray was blown away by Carlos Soler’s assist for Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s goal as West Ham United were thumped 5-2 by Arsenal.

The Hammers were hammered by the Gunners in what could be a killer blow to under pressure manager Julen Lopetegui.

His Irons side had defeated Newcastle on Monday (25 November) to relieve some of that pressure but it will likely be right back on the Spaniard due to the nature of the defeat.

His side did show some fight beginning with Wan-Bissaka’s goal in the 38th minute, though, and Gray sought out the assist-maker for praise.

Speaking live on beIN SPORTS 1 [30 November], Gray said: Carlos Soler with the pass.

“It’s wonderful, eye-of-the-needle stuff. He dissects five players. Fabulous.”

Carlos Soler stands out despite West Ham defeat

The Spaniard was the best player for his side in the heavy defeat to the Gunners on Saturday (30 November).

The 27-year-old has had a tough start to life at the London Stadium and was handed just his second Premier League start in the victory over Newcastle on Monday (25 November).

The former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder impressed in the clash at St James’ Park and showed why the Hammers were so desperate to bring him in.

Julen Lopetegui will hope that can get the best out of his compatriot, with a crucial run of matches on the horizon that will be crucial to his job security.

The Irons face Leicester, Wolves, Bournemouth, Brighton and Southampton in the coming weeks and quite simply need a response across those games if European football is to be on next season.

If he can maintain this performance level consistently, Soler may find his loan deal turns into a permanent stay in East London.

In other West Ham news, Lopetegui may be given until January to save his job.
