One Chelsea player continues to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge in January.

Chelsea star Benoit Badiashile appears to face an uncertain future amid a struggle for game time under Enzo Maresca. The 23-year-old has found himself stuck behind Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill this season, with Enzo Maresca settling upon a first choice centre-back partnership early in his reign.

Badiashile joined Chelsea for more than £30million last year, and still only 23, he has plenty of time not only to challenge the existing first choice partnership but to develop and improve. Still, there is already talk of the defender being sold in the January transfer window or potentially next summer.

Reports in France have claimed that interest is already building amid talk that Badiashile could be available. Foot Mercato say there is interest from Serie A and Bundesliga ahead of January, but a move may not be close at all.

That’s because the report also adds that Badiashile is not considering a move away from Chelsea, nor has be considered the possibility of leaving at this stage. That will be seen as good news by Maresca, who seems to see the Frenchman as a valuable player, even if he cannot start him. The Italian said in late September: “They train very good, but unfortunately I can’t give them a chance. Benoit’s working very well, but is not getting minutes in the Premier League. It’s not because he’s doing bad. Sometimes you have to take some decisions. Misha, Benoit, like all the players who aren’t getting many chances, tomorrow is a good chance to get some minutes.”

As for the defender himself, he was asked in November whether he was considering leaving, and he responded: “Of course, I want to stay. Chelsea is a big club. I know it’s difficult to succeed here. But I will do my best.” That said, the defender will want to be playing more regularly than he is, so this will be a situation to keep an eye on.
