Hughes: We have to keep believing in how we’re playing

As for the last-minute nature of Muñoz’s goal – his first for the club – Hughes smiled: “100% he [Daniel] deserves it.

“It just shows our mentality of keeping going for 95-100 minutes. We're not in the best situation at the moment and it would have been easy to drop our heads after going a goal down, but it will turn if we keep performing like this.

“That [our fitness level] is one of our strengths. It's also one of Newcastle's strengths. They're one of the highest intensity teams in the league, as are we, so we knew it was going to be a tough game in that sense, but we have to keep going and believe in the way that we're playing.

“I think the stats kind of back it up and we kept them to a minimum. Getting that first goal will really change things I think.”

Palace have lost just one of their last five Premier League matches, but have also won just once in that space of time.

A trip to Ipswich Town and Portman Road is next up on Tuesday.

Hughes said: “We're close to turning it around. I know the point's not the end of the world, but it does feel like two dropped. We just have to keep believing in the way we're playing.

“We're playing well. When you're only winning one in 13 games it doesn't seem like that, but I think we have turned a corner from the start of the season definitely, in our performances and our intensity, so it's just a matter of when we get those couple of wins together, and then the confidence will be sky high.

“It's just a matter of when.”
