Everton sent scouts to watch young Reims midfielder Valentin Atangana last week, according to Alan Nixon.
The journalist posted on his Patreon page [1 December] that the Reims midfielder, 19, had as many as 26 clubs watching him but didn’t specify in which game.
Atangana is already a regular in the Reims side and, though born in Cameroon, has represented France up to Under-21 level.
It is understood Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are leading the change for Atangana, with Nixon saying they sent the “big guns”.

Everton have resumed their transfer plans seemingly into the winter transfer window with a potential bid for Atangana in January.

The club were in the market for a central midfielder over the summer having lost Amadou Onana to Villa in a £50million deal, with Andre Gomes leaving upon expiry of his contract.
Despite preferring a deeper-lying role in the middle of the park, Atangana also boasts an eye for goal, having scored six goals at various youth international levels for Les Bleus. He is also adept as a right-back or further on in the midfield.

Tim Iroegbunam and Orel Mangala were eventually brought in after Everton had sought a number of central midfield options, but with injuries and form coming into play, the duo only have nine league starts between them.
Atangana’s current deal in France runs until the summer of 2027, which maintains Reims in a good position to bring in a tidy transfer fee should a Premier League powerhouse come to the table.
