Paris Saint-Germain are still top of Ligue 1, and that will remain the case, regardless of the result between Olympique de Marseille and AS Monaco at the Vélodrome on Sunday night. However, following their loss to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, it is clear that they are not in their richest vein of form – an observation that was re-asserted in PSG’s 1-1 draw to FC Nantes on Saturday night.
Despite taking the lead through Achraf Hakimi in the second minute of the game, Matthis Abline equalised before half-time and, despite knocking on the door throughout, they couldn’t find a way to re-establish their advantage, ultimately having to settle for a draw.
Speaking in a post-match press conference, attended by Get French Football News, Luis Enrique struggled to get his head around the result. “It’s inexplicable. In my managerial career, I cannot explain it. We have the best chance-creation stats of my whole career in management. At some point, I’ll have to say I don’t know. It’s going to turn; it can’t continue like this. We will have to stop this run and change it. We had five clear chances,” said the Spaniard.
The PSG manager added that whilst the result against Nantes was “frustrating”, it was necessary to “insist” on the play style that they have adopted.
